Building Communication Bridges for Equity in Emergencies
Empowering communication during emergencies through tools, training, and awareness.
First Responders and Deaf (FRnD) is an organization that bridges the communication gap between first responders and Deaf/DeafBlind individuals during emergencies. The initiative began after Raj and Riya witnessed how confusion and fear can escalate when people are unable to understand one another. To address this, FRnD developed the Emergency Communication Card—a waterproof, high-contrast communication tool featuring medical prompts and American Sign Language (ASL) signs. The team also created a free online training video and a certified Emergency Medical Services (EMS) course. Together, these efforts promote equal access to safety and healthcare for an underserved community, fostering dignity, inclusion, and understanding across the United States.
A passionate group of founders, advisors, and community leaders working together to bridge communication between first responders and the Deaf community.
